Sacraments

God is with us always as we journey through life and especially in those moments when we celebrate the Sacraments, which are so much more than rites of passage or one-off ceremonies. They are living encounters with God's love that open our lives to being guided, shaped and blessed by His help and grace.

Baptism

Baptism is the first of the sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sins, reborn as children of God, and made like to Christ by an indelible character, and are incorporated into the Church. If you would like to arrange baptism for your child, or to receive baptism yourself, the first step is to come along to the celebration of Holy Mass at our church and see the priest afterwards.

Reconciliation

Those who approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation obtain pardon from God’s mercy for their sins, and are at the same time, reconciled with the Church. This Sacrament (Confession) is available weekly in church on Saturday evenings and frequently during the Seasons of Advent and Lent. You are welcome to ask the priest if you wish to receive this Sacrament at any other time.

The Holy Eucharist

The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life and is the sacrament in which our Lord Jesus Christ gives his Body and Blood - Himself - for us, so that we too might give ourselves to Him in love and be united with Him in Holy Communion. In this way we are joined with the one Body of Christ, the Church. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass  is celebrated daily and we especially attend church each Sunday to celebrate.

Sacramental Programme

The parish community, working with our parish primary school, organises an annual Sacramental Programme for the children to prepare them to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of The Holy Eucharist for the first time. If you would like to enquire about the programme and how to arrange for your child to participate, please come along to the celebration of Holy Mass at our church and see the priest afterwards.

Confirmation

After Baptism, the Sacrament of Confirmation - the gift of the Holy Spirit - gives us a special strength to proclaim our faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ. In the Diocese of Salford, Confirmation is celebrated for children who are in year 8 at secondary school. In this part of the Bolton Deanery, a Partnership Confirmation Programme with Thornleigh Salesian College is held each year. Catechetical sessions for the candidates take place at Thornleigh. Please contact our parish for more information.

Marriage

Marriage

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. This covenant between baptised persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a Sacrament. In the Diocese of Salford, 6 months’ notice are required before a wedding. To begin the process of marriage preparation, please come along to the celebration of Holy Mass and see the priest afterwards.

Anointing of the Sick

By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and Death of Christ. If you are poorly at this time and would like to receive the Sacrament, please contact the Presbytery to arrange for a priest to visit you. Please also contact us if you know of somebody who is reaching the end of their life and would like to receive the Sacrament. The Sacrament is also administered at the monthly Mass for Healing in the parish church. Please refer to the parish bulletin for the date and time of the celebration.
