A parish community in the Diocese of Salford, entrusted to the care of the Salesians of Don Bosco
Welcome
to Holy Infant's Parish
The Catholic Church of The Holy Infant and St Anthony serves the community of Astley Bridge and the surrounding area north of Bolton. The parish has been entrusted to the care of the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order who have been involved in the education of young people at the nearby Thornleigh Salesian College since 1925. The parish joyfully shares in the saving mission of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church through the sacraments and prayer, witness and outreach. All are welcome to join us in this mission.
'Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.'
St Anthony of Padua
Our Patron
The Holy Infant and St Anthony
The saint most often seen in artwork holding the Infant Jesus in his arms is our patron St Anthony of Padua. The story is told that one day, while reading the Scriptures, he received an apparition. The Infant Jesus appeared resting on the pages of the Scriptures and in his arms. The Word of God appeared to the man who had dedicated his whole life to preaching the Gospel. For this reason, many images of St Anthony depict him holding a Bible alongside the Infant Jesus.
